Instead of their usual per-program weeklong celebrations, Meridian International College (MINT College) decided to to have their five Arts-related courses collaborate for the one-time MINT Media Week this semester, last October 2-5 at the newly-opened Ortigas East, Pasig City campus.
Programs like Multimedia Arts, Theater Arts, Film, Music Business Management, and Fashion worked together to prepare series of activities that both college and senior high school students enjoyed. This year’s theme is all about the urban street scene—may it be in visual arts, style, or music.
The five-day event had various well-known people over to talk about their craft, and to share to the attendees how the street cultural movement inspired their creations.
The Multimedia Arts program invited illustrator Tokwa Peñaflorida, activist and mural painter AG Saño, scenery painter and portrait artist Vin Quilop, and calligraphist Jhanna Yanga. All have showcased their amazing artworks and talked about their journey in developing their skills for visual arts.
The Film department had an amazing run as well by having over lauded cinematographer Dix Buhay (Citizen Jake) and Hollywood-based stunt choreographer, Sonny Sison. They also held a free and exclusive screening of the multi-awarded Cinemalaya film, “Respeto”, followed by a panel discussion with director Treb Monteras, producers Monster Jimenez and Kristine Kintana, and production designer, Popo Diaz.
As for the Music Business Management, they had Gogo Harrold and Armi Millare share their experience as a touring artist and their creative process in music-making.
Fashion staged a streetwear runway show titled “Tingin”. This was put together by the first batch of MINT School of Fashion. Theater Arts also prepared an Improv show titled “Show Me Ya Dingdong”.
In between the talks and workshops are pocket gigs by talented Music Business Management students and invited guests. Acoustic singer Bea Lorenzo and alumni group, Tomcat were part of the lineup. A medley was performed by the school’s official glee club, MINT Riffs, and was followed by an awesome dance-off with crews TEAM and MINT Variety Crew. There was also an exhibit by the MINT Photo Club. This won’t be MINT Street without the school’s hiphop artists like Leo Malli, Ganzi, Zelijah, and Shanti Dope.
This event won’t be possible by Artline stationery products, Times Corporation, When In Manila, Beyond The Box, and Canon. W
