Music Business Management students took the spotlight last January 19, 2020 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena at Wish FM 107.5’s Wish Music Awards. Clara Benin, Syd Hartha, and Jam Villanueva and Poch Barretto of Ben & Ben were lauded for their original songs and performances.
MINT College alumna and OPM indie artist, Benin, bagged Wish Contemporary Folk Performance of the Year for her single, “I Rose Up Slowly”. She was also nominated as Artist of the Year, and in the category, Collaboration of the Year with Muni-Muni, an indie folk-pop band, for their song “Solomon”. Part of her prize will benefit Save the Children Philippines, a non-profit organization dedicated in child welfare.
Freshman syd hartha was nominated in the category, Contemporary Folk Song of the Year, for her meaningful song about consent, “Ayaw”. She was also awarded by Wish FM as the Face of the Night.
Musicians and MINt graduates Jam Villanueva and Poch Barretto of the famous OPM folk-pop band, Ben & Ben, also won big as their group bagged Group of the Year and Urban Performance of the Year with their song, “Pagtingin”. Villanueva is the band’s drummer, while Barretto is their guitarist. Their beneficiary is the Philippine Cancer Society.
