MINT Multimedia students with Program Head, Lizza Gutierrez; IED ambassador Andrea Tosi; Asia-Pacific Area Manager Vlad Serba; and designer/ mentor Davide Colla for a portfolio critique session over Google Meet last April 28, 2021.
LAST April 28, 2021, design faculty from Istituto Europeo di Design (IED), Milan, Italy, met with MINT College Multimedia students again for a new session: a critique panel for their Portfolio class. MINT Instructor and Multimedia Program Head, Lizza Gutierrez was also in attendance along with designer and mentor, Davide Colla, as the IED panelist. Also present in the virtual meet were IED ambassador Andrea Tosi; and Asia-Pacific Area Manager Vlad Serba.
For their second online meeting, the students were asked to prepare a portfolio consisting of their three best works. There were ten students who participated— seven of which presented their Graphic Design works, and the remaining three focused on Photography.
According to MINT Instructor Gutierrez, the curation process of their top three works prior to the virtual meeting, helped the students decide which projects best carried their personal brand as creatives. Their first session with Italian designer, Colla, discussed the importance of portfolios that leave a strong impression, especially for students that are looking for professional work.
“This allowed our students enough time to self-reflect on the values that they uphold as creatives, what they believe in, what they wanted to do, and why they do it,” explained Gutierrez.
The students were given five to seven minutes to present, and Colla gave his feedback and suggestions for improvement. They presented their best work from their classes like Color Theory, Typography, Digital Design, and Brand Design. As for the student-photographers, they showed various works reflecting diverse themes and topics.
Designer-mentor Colla suggested that it would be more cohesive if the presentation has a specific flow like showing a “movie, and how it is produced”. He said that it is much easier to appreciate a creative project by seeing it first-hand, then proceed to how they came up with it.
After the session, the IED team were impressed with the quality of work of the Multimedia class. “I can see that all of the students are committed to their craft, and are very talented creatives, taking into account that most of you are still young. I can also see that the teaching methodology of MINT is very good, and very effective,” Asia-Pacific Area Manager Vlad Serba said. W
