That night was unconventional, refreshing, and impactful.
In true MINT College fashion, the school launched their new location at the fourth floor of Silver City 1A building in Ortigas Avenue, Pasig City with a concert last February 22. Aptly named “New Wave,” the concert was headlined by MINT’s talented young musicians, including Syd Hartha, Fern., Elise Huang, EJ de Perio, and Clara Benin. YouTuber and youth influencer Janina Vela, who is also a MINT Film student, hyped the crowd as host for the night.
First up to perform was the school’s official glee club, the MINT Riffs. The contemporary choir set the tone for the rest of the evening by performing upbeat medleys, ranging from Broadway sing-alongs, to a compilation of hit original singles by their musician-schoolmates.
Next up was EJ De Perio, MBM senior and OPM singer-songwriter. He performed a rendition of Maroon 5’s Sunday Morning, and two of his original songs. His setlist was a heartfelt storytelling of familiar emotions that surely tugged the heartstrings of everyone.
Elise Huang, also a self-made singer-songwriter and MBM student, was easily the crowd favorite with her lively stage performance of original songs.
MINT MBM graduate and indie artist Clara Benin brought her soulful singing and distinct acoustic guitar playing.
Cool pop artist and MINT EM student Fern. had the audience swaying with his synth infused vibe music.
Lastly, OPM singer-songwriter and MBM student Syd Hartha gave a powerful one-woman performance of songs that told stories of love, heartbreak and her personal journey of coming to terms with herself.
With its new campus slated to open this August, a new wave of talented students is set to enter MINT’s doors. Are you one of them?
